Antique Tale of Two Cities |

Alexandria
Founded 2330 years ago, Alexandria, is a treasure trove of immortal history and modern renaissance. As the capital of Greco-Roman Egypt, it was a beacon of culture symbolized by Pharos, the setting of Cleopatra and Marc Anthony’s passions and the site of Ptolemy I - Soter’s ancient library. Egypt’s second city is host to the Greco-Roman Museum, Amphitheatre and Catacombs, the medieval Fort, and the more contemporary Royal Palace and jewelry museum.
Cosmopolitan Alexandria is in the midst of a modern revival that has many asking why this coastal metropolis was ever overlooked. This Mediterranean jewel is sparkling like never before. |

The lost dream of Akhenaten, Ther Monothesit, The Heretic |
 |
Minia : Minia, a Middle Egypt town 245km south of Cairo, houses sites connected to the “heretic king” Akhenaten and his beautiful wife Nefertiti. Akhenaten was branded a heretic when he established the unique cult of “Aton” against a predominant host of divinities headed by Amon-Ra. There is not much left in today’s Tel El Amarna, his dream capital city, founded in 1376 BC. Situated 450 km north of Thebes (Luxor), its temples were destroyed by his successors and its dwellings abandoned by its inhabitants. Little is left of these glorious times, of the city proper and of Nefertiti’s palace where only vestiges remain of its animal filled gardens and frescoes depicting birds romping in the swamps. |
 |
Beni Hassan : Rock tombs of the Middle Kingdom (2000 BC), where 12 of the 39 tombs carved in the rock depict Ancient Egyptians’ daily life in vivid colors. |
 |
Tuna EL Gebel : Site of monuments of the Greco-Roman period (300 BC). Most interesting are the sacred Baboon & Ibis Necropolis. |
